Trans people of color ignited the U.S. Gay Rights Movement.  Transphobia and racism within the queer community is purposely ignorant, plus irreverent and inexcusable.

 

Marsha P. Johnson and Silvia Rivera, a black drag queen and a Latine drag queen respectively, were trans rights activists and veterans of the historical Stonewall Riots held in 1969.  Even further back, the first person in America to take legal action on behalf of the queer community was William Dorsey Swann (1858-1925), another black drag queen who organized drag balls and created safe spaces for gender experimentation.
